DM Device Switch is supposed to also copy over applications I believe. I use a local install of BES manager to do my activations. I only use DM (and a specific mapi) to restore things that are missed and wanted by the user, like old calendar entries.

BES stores all the information on the server. The only thing I use DM for is the activation for larger mailboxes that take too long to activate OTA ________________________________ From: Doug Farr <[email protected]> To: etc. A list for BES Admin's to discuss issues <[email protected]> Sent: Thu, April 22, 2010 4:54:50 PM Subject: Re: [Bes-admins] Best Practice when a current BES user gets a newer BB HH We use Desktop Manager and use the 'Device Switch Wizard', then we go to 'Backup and Restore', select Advance and delete from the new device all the contacts, calender and task, then do a BES reactivation. Then wipe the old device and give it out to another user. >>> Shari Shostak <[email protected]> 4/22/2010 2:41 PM >>> The execs are getting the newer BOLD devices and turning theirs in so another staff person can get the older device. I would like to be able to hand the VP a new BOLD with some of their old setup intact – like having their password carry over and any BIS setup carryover to the new BOLD from old 8800. Is it possible? I think I’d have to use the first option I stated below for this to happen for the BOLD. For the 8800, a new user would be activated. So, I get the fact I wouldn’t have to wipe it – an activation would take care of it. Once you activate the new one with the carrier its as good as gone as far as bes is concerned.
