I don't think you can get away with changing the name. IP maybe, but not name. I could be wrong:
My BMS was originally installed as bas.domain. (My server hosts both BAS and BMS). The FQDN was later changed to bas.xxx.domain and BMS simply wouldn't work. I had to uninstall the BMS instance, delete the BMS database from SQL, the reinstall as if from scratch. Good luck :) Bad luck on having weird naming conventions which are forcing you to do this though.
