If you don't need the security / manageability and sync options I'd guess not. . unless of course you're going to BES Express which will still give you 95% of everything you'd get with full BES.

The only interaction BES has with BIS accounts is that a BES can block access to BIS. If a BlackBerry smartphone is BES provisioned and the BES Admin does not block access to BIS a user on BES/BES Express can successfully use BIS.
