Ha – I had to respond to the comment of “are you a BES admin using an iPhone”
My response – Yup ☺ From: Jeff Peters [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, December 16, 2010 8:51 AM To: A list for BES Admin's to discuss issues, etc. Subject: Re: [Bes-admins] Blackberry as Modem via Blue Tooth Bluetooth 1.1 caps out around 700kb, I regularly see 1.5mbs+ on my 3G connection, so I gave up on the BT and just use USB. But I’ve jumped ship and use Android Wifi Tether ☺ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Hupf, Robert (CCL) Sent: Thursday, December 16, 2010 8:43 AM To: [email protected]; A list for BES Admin's to discuss issues, etc. Subject: Re: [Bes-admins] Blackberry as Modem via Blue Tooth Oddly enough, when using the tether.com app, I got nearly identical speeds using Bluetooth or USB, but Steve has a good point about keeping the BB charged. Plus you charge the BB instead of draining it this way ________________________________ From: "Moller, Doreen" <[email protected]> To: "A list for BES Admin's to discuss issues, etc." <[email protected]> Cc: "A list for BES Admin's to discuss issues, etc." <[email protected]> Sent: Thu, December 16, 2010 8:08:54 AM Subject: Re: [Bes-admins] Blackberry as Modem via Blue Tooth Ok great . You do have to have “tethering” enabled on the device. Most carriers charge a premium for this or you can consider some 3rd party products that may not be “legal” with your agreement. I would highly recommend using a USB cable as opposed to Bluetooth. Bluetooth has a very low bandwidth and you’ll typically see speeds 5x faster using the cable. I received this request from a user today: Thanks! Is it possible to use my Blackberry as modem (through bluetooth)? Sometimes its hard to get a WiFi connection and then a Bluetooth connection would be handy.
