You can either create a new instance on your old BES server or install
SQL express 2008 on your new BES server and run the database there. If
you install SQL on the new server, cancel the current install, install
SQL, then run the setup again and point it to the server you're
installing BES on. I typically go with that second option. It depends on
how many users you have, etc.

Ok so here is the story so far.... Conneced instal of BEs v5.0 and it
was going smooth until it restarted as part of the normal process.
Now i am stuck at the Database Configuration part.
Essentially we do not use a SQL server to store the config database,
instead its all on the BES01 which is the current Blackberry server
with Exchange Management Shell (ESM) installed
.
So , how do I get the damn thing to move past this part to create the
config database within the Blackberry Server itself so i can proceed to
CAl and SRP ingformation.

Attached is screen shot.

I have 2003 Exchange and went from BES 4.0 to 5.0 on to a different 2003
server (which should have made it easy). I did have problems with SPK3
due to a windows zipped file size problem , but there's a windows hot
fix that resolves that issue. During the install I had to call BB three
times because of installation errors, not to scare you but I was on a
time crunch and it was on the weekend. The funny thing was that I
prepped for a month checking all the posts and was still T-boned by the
installation. If you have BES installed on the Exchange server (not a
good practice- removed mine instance off exchange in 2007) you may want
to change that.

Make sure to make a copy the mapi and that it needs to match what is on
the Exchange server if BES is on another server/VM instance. Also I had
the Exchange system manager on the BES server, and it was not updated so
I had to uninstall and reinstall a current version.

Good Luck

Subject: [Bes-admins] Upgrade BES 4.1.7 to Bes Express 5.0

Hi I am novice on Blackberry and need assistance to migrate users from v
4.1.7 to v5.0 in a Virtal environment.

Less than 100 users and want to migrate users with minimum fuss and if I
can avoid it no activation.

We have Exchange 2007 installed in V Ware.

Essentially when I logon to current BES I can see that Exchange
management shell is installed so do I need to install this onto the new
BES Express too ?

I have been reading forums and closest example that meets my environment
and needs are posted here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-admin-corner/218514-moving-bes-4-1-6
-9-bes-5-0-1-different-server.html

>From what I can understand need to install the new BES, using SRP &
license from old server stopping services running on the old one 1st,
then install the admin management , use Blackberry Transportto migrate
users, then point to use current configuration database files and voila
all done.

Is this about right ? any assistance will be much appreciated.
