Periodic battery pulls (or reset via Quick Pull or similar) are a good thing - 
I 
do it any time I start experiencing random slowdowns, strange issues.  Never 
experienced the gray screen on this device but on previous devices, yes.

If the BB is several years old, I would consider an upgrade - if new, maybe a 
return.
