Absolutely not required! As long as this account is able to send mail out of the org, it does not need to receive anything from outside.

I wanted to know if this is required for the mailbox to function; I'd prefer to give it an internal SMTP that restricts sending to only mailboxes in the Exchange 2003 org in order to eliminate (in other words, it would go from [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> to [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>).
