I have retested with a clean session, and agree that the reported behaviour did not occur. In the session I was reporting on there was already a plot window open and a plot displayed prior to the error occurring.

I can reproduce the behaviour reported when a plot window has been displayed prior to a plot call containing an error. I do not know if it always occurs, but it has been a frequent occurrence.

 Try

plot (i.10); i. 3 10
plot 1 2 3 4 ; 1 2 3 3 2

then closing the plot.

following in Term.  There was an error message but it was
printed inside the Term session.

load'plot'
