Maybe something changed in your startup profile?  Can you try running jconsole 
-jprofile (in either J6 or J8 or both) to see if the problem is in the J engine 
or the scripts it is loading? 

If the problem is in the scripts, you can further isolate it by temporarily 
deleting your personal profile. If the error persists, the standard library has 
been corrupted, if it evaporates there's something wonky in your personal 
library.
