I pre-check every beta .deb using "dpkg-deb -c" against absolute
(system) paths and then run "dpkg-deb -R" to unpack them into
my own, unpriviledged paths. I then review the pre/postinstall
scripts and take according actions (usually there is nothing to
do for me).
Why? It allows me to keep and run several betas in parallel and
to compare them, I can install addons without root privileges,
and I don't risk my base system. I'm familiar with things
such as ldconfig(8) etc. where required.
