It's just the last week or two I think. I'll revert the version and try to narrow it down. Meanwhile:

(<;._3) 2 2 2$1 2 3 is ok
(<;._3) 2 2 2$1 2 3 4 is index error
(<;._3) 2 2$1 2 3 4 is ok
(<;._3) 2 2 2 2$1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 is ok
and similar results for 'abcd...' replacing 1 2 3 4... except it fails with "domain error" instead.
