I tried the change on Windows 10 with J901-beta-d and Firefox and there did not
seem to be any change in the error I get from beta-d:

Perhaps more important than my earlier whinging about pacman -
I've just now seem to have found that J901 beta-d JHS doesn't work for me,
in Windows 10.
The console window opens ok - displaying (removing blank lines):
C:\d\j901\bin>"C:\d\j901\bin\jconsole" ~addons/ide/jhs/core.ijs -js "
init_jhs_'' "
J HTTP Server - init OK
Ctrl+c here signals an interrupt to J.
Browse to: http://127.0.0.1:65001/jijx
but the Chrome Browser shows, my typing as it doesn't copy/paste:
[Sad Face]
This page isn't working
localhost sent an invalid response
ERR_INVALID_HTTP_RESPONSE
[Reload]
You might ask - how do I know it's the fault of beta-d?
I adapted update.bat as backdate.bat to replace j.dll with j.dll.old from
the temp/je_update folder, ran JHS and it works fine. Not an exhaustive
experiment, but suggestive.
Here's the beta-d version info:
JVERSION
Engine: j901/j64/windows
Beta-d: commercial/2019-04-21T12:38:39
Library: 9.01.03
Platform: Win 64
Installer: J901 install
InstallPath: c:/d/j901
Contact: www.jsoftware.com
I'll revert to beta-c for now.
Thanks again,
Mike

OK - so having installed j901 beta-c a few days ago, I've just now run
Tools/Package Manager/install (selecting "Updates" and "Not Installed"),
noticing about 5 updates, including jd (though not licensed!) and json
and
some others. This was under JQt.
But the version is still beta-c, as I rather expected.
It's not clear, to me at least, whether pacman is or is not to be
identified with
the mechanism I've just used. Evidently you intend us to do
load'pacman'
je_update_jpacman_'' NB. download latest JE
which I vaguely recalled, but had to dig around for in back emails....
and
it worked!
Thanks,
Mike

J901-beta-d is available as a zip install package for windows/mac/linux.
Get your zip install package:
https://code.jsoftware.com/wiki/System/Installation/Zips
After your first install of J901 beta you will be able to do subsequent
beta updates with pacman.
The list of changes is in release notes:
