It might make sense, in the context of Linux, to have both the minimalist "all terrain" jconsole and a full featured "kit car" jconsole that detects and uses readily apparent libraries and also includes a diagnostic/suggestion mechanism for the missing ones.
It might even be appropriate to request this from the linux community (though that's likely to pull in some heavyweight dependencies, unless we can engage the exprtise of someone with experience with a lot of different linux flavors. Or maybe I should take this on?
