Thanks, Brian.
I normally write my tacit phrases in named subphrases, though the names
disappear when they're all combined.
Even if it's only to write LF instead of (10{a.) -- which is what it turns
into (which degrades readability).
I often have to cook-up my verbs from reusable (named) ingredients.
Particularly if playing with (;:).
But Explicit expressions that generate a tacit verb (and vv) are a
longstanding interest. If (13 :) is to be exposed on the hillside,
beginners will have need of something else. Tools to match what other
languages have (…does anyone talk of CASE tools anymore?) would go a long
way towards raising J from cult to language (=means of communication).
Keyboard Maestro: https://www.keyboardmaestro.com/
I've used it for years, rely on it daily, and would recommend it to all my
friends. Far more usable & hence useful that either AppleScript or
Automator. I used it when drafting NuVoc to help me refer consistently to
Glossary and AET terms, not to say primitives.
But Mac users are a select plutocracy on the J list, so maybe I'm speaking
out of turn (…yet again).
WIBNI (wouldn't-it-be-nice-if) we could write J verbs which generate text
in the wiki editing area. I'd have no need of KM, and could write the
standard verbs for everyone else to use. Less show/tell and more give. Our
wiki might in time win awards.
And no it's not just a dream. Pythonista on iOS sports just such a tool: a
custom keyboard programmable in Python.
