The profile does lots of stuff and something there may be what stumbles across the problem.

The next step is to see if j.exe runs without profile. In a Command Prompt window try:

....>j.exe -jprofile

If this brings up an ijx window then something in the profile is trigering the problem. In this case you can get more info by following advice in Help|User Manual|Starting J - Profile Errors.

If this fails, it might be interesting to try the stable 504 release.

before.

Note that previous to today, J was running fine.  So this is probably

environmental issue, but I do not know how to isolate the problem.
