I've been programming various versions of Microsoft BASIC since Altair days, over 30 years ago. I'm very much a newbie when it comes to J, but its powerful vector/array handling makes me want to learn it for application to music and finance. My question is this, concerning differences between the previous "standard" language as found in all the various books and learning tools and in the 601 version:
The dropping of the dot from m, n, u, v, x and y is documented in the 6.01 release highlights in the J online help. However, the dropping of the dot from all control structures is NOT documented anywhere that I can find (maybe it exists, but I couldn't find it). Is that a documentation oversight? Are there any other significant (i.e., from a learning standpoint) undocumented changes from the previous "standard" J that newbies such as myself ought to know about? Thanks! The current 6.01 beta online help shows terminal dots in the section on control structures, even though J6.01 won't accept them! (They turn red when entered with dots.)
