That little window flashes the first time J is run. It is necessary to actually show a window to get some display metric information for the proper display of subsequent windows. This info is collected from that first window and then stored in config. Edit|Configure|Java Settings|Form Metrics is the information.

I tried to run beta v on Linux, but was not
succesful in reproducing a crash :). However,
when it run for the first time (NEWUSER),
the first window that appears is a small form
named "a", which quickly disappeas and Session
and Welcome forms are shown normally.

Doing it until it works and then clicking "do not show again" is not a very satisfactory workaround. Is it true that once you kill the welcome screen that you don't see the problem again and can run all the demos?

The very short java error is strange. Usually there is a page of
information with a few hidden hints.

I'd guess at some kind of Java race condition. Its use of pseudo
multi-threading can sometimes get confused.

Anything special about the hardware? Dual processor or whatever?

When you say 504 works every time I assume that you are running it so as
to get the weclome splash screen as that seems to be the trigger.

Unless I get reports from other systems failing or more tidbits I'm not
sure what to do about this.
