It seem that the only reason why the CRT DLL is
needed in J is to provide desktop GUI for Windows
Front End, which is done in MFC.

(A different question is if MFC is good at all, 
or maybe WTL is better, or even Java-only would do).

But isn't it possible to link MFC statically,
so that it does not require any VC++ specific DLL
and only rely on standard Windows system DLLs?

It would increase size slightly but should simplify
the whole thing with different flavors of Windows.
