Yes, the usb install got lost a bit in the shuffle. As Chris points out
there is a simple workaround by editing profile.ijs. I will consider
extending the appboot.ijs trick used in intaller apps to make it easier to
provide a standard way to override profile. Right now if you looked at how
appboot.ijs is used you would see that a simple definition of appboot.ijs in
your usb J bin would be able to set user and temp as you wished.

usr folder is now under 'Documents and Settings' or 'home' while this
useful for multi-user config, it is no longer usb portable. Is it
intended that multi-user has a higher priority than usb portable in the
standard distribution?
