If you select System radiobutton and then press next there is supposed to be a message box that says 'You need to cancel the program and then rerun with a right click and select "run as admin". Do you not see this box? Is this on vista or xp?

Yes the options are great. If the permissions issues end up being sorted
out, I wonder if the installation under HOME might actually be better
labelled "non-administrator" rather than "single-user" ?

I have slowly become more comfortable with the curious behavior of
Program
Files in Vista and it is practially a first class citizen in the
current
version.

The nasty anomolies that bothered me go away as long as the installer
and
JAL insist on running as admin if the install is in Program Files.
This
version of the installer does that and there will be hooks that allow
JAL to
also insist on admin.

Am I right that the new installer should prompt me to elevate its
permissions, like other installation and maintenance operations? If so,
unfortunately it didn't seem to work for me. The first time I ran the
install and chose to install in Program Files, it asked me if I wanted
to create the folder. I said yes and then the installer disappeared - no
folder was created.

I tried running the installer using "Run as administrator" - it worked
fine.

I deleted the folder and I tried to install again without "Run as
administrator", but this time it just reported: Create folder failed:
"C:\Program Files\j602"

I didn't get prompted to elevate the permissions for the installer at
any time.
