Another interesting quirk of vista security. A file that has been downloaded or a file from a networked drive is tagged as suspect. If you run such a file you get the 'The publisher could not be verified...' message box. Unfortunately this running in blocked mode changes the way some api commands work and causes the incorrect behavior reported. You can turn this attribute of for a file but right-click|properties|unblock. If you do this you will then see a J installer message box saying that you need to be admin to do the system install etc.

I'm not sure how they tag the file. I don't see it documented as part of a directory entry but the registry seems like serious overkill. And whatever supposed security that is provided by changing the behavior of api commands is silly as the app could simply read, write, and then reexecute to avoid the blocked feature.

I will figure out a workround for the next beta.

Currently I am resisting the pressure to get signed certificates.

I was using Vista Ultimate.  No I didn't get the message box.
