HP have a piece of free software called "HP Smart Web Printing" which is 
supposed to deal with just that sort of problem. The URL is horrible; go 
to <http://www.hp.com> and search on "smart web printing".

I haven't yet tried it, because (according to the product specs) it only 
runs with IE (6 or 7), but it may be of some use to others.
