Hypothetically speaking, we should be able to implement wd in J to work under the gtk front end (and, possibly, for a significant subset of features, jhs). That said, a JFE version would almost certainly have some advantages -- in particular, "full support for existing features" would be almost guaranteed. With a re-implementation, its quite likely that some little used cases might get lost. Also, initial versions of new code need time and work before they can be polished.
