Y'all might want to take a look at YUI (Yahoo User Interface Library), 
which is used by a number of open source projects to handle "all the 
fancy stuff" on web pages:

(you can skip over the "Core" and go to the "Utilities"--some neat 
stuff there that saves coding from scratch!)
