For me the problem is only on Mac FF. Mac Safari keystrokes work fine.
Otoh, in neither FF nor Safari do I see any color change between the
two states: there is no color in either state.

Not only does it fail in FF, I get an error audible when I strike just
control+ withouth the . .

I cannot see any difference from Esc c in either FF or Safari.

That is the only way for me to detect a change because colors never
changed for me.
