I got it working! I'm running SuSE and the startscript on the rpm didn't work for me. I had seen in the UNIX/linux forum that I was not alone with that problem, so I left it for the moment and just started it drectly as user 'slimserver'. Having given up on iTunes I went back to the forum and saw that the other guy with the startscript problem had it resolved (basically by first running it directly under the slimserver user account and then retrying the startscript), so I tried the startscript also. This time it worked, and even better, the iTunes integration now suddenly also kicked in. It found and parsed my slightly adapted iTunes xml-file correctly. Problem solved. Thanks for your input. It did keep me going!
