Well, needless to say I've wondered about the RF field strengths in the
environment.

At work there are two different networks and nodes on four different
channels, all 3 channels apart. Being in Europe, our WiFi networks,
like Spinal Tap guitar amps, can go up to (channel) 13 so it is a
little easier to choose channels that do not overlap.

At home there are indeed several local WiFi networks on a number of
channels.

We have two nodes in the house, one on a low channel and one on a high
one, (because my wife's laptop doesn't do WPA2 and I have one device
that doesn't do WPA1) and we have a cordless phone system (switching it
off has no measurable impact on performance).

Local WiFi networks that I can spot with various sniffers are on
channels at least 3 channels away from the one used by the Slim system
(selected deliberately for this reason).

Changing channels makes no difference (though I can actually make
overall performance /worse/ by choosing the "wrong" channels, it
doesn't actually affect the performance in this particular way).

Perhaps most importantly:
a) no other device I have (ie laptops etc) suffers from this problem,
only the Nokia. eg, I can access the Nokia skin on my laptop and
display albums by artwork and it's fine.
b) I can access very complex web pages on the Nokia without it falling
over. For example, if I display albums by artwork on the main SS skin
(I'm using Fishbone), it works fine. Displaying albums by artwork with
the 770 skin, however, is problematical - at home. At work it works
fine.

I was previously of the opinion that some 770 skin pages (such as
display albums by artwork) were just too much for the Nokia. However
now I have the server running at work and it's no trouble there, I'm
not so sure. All I can imagine is that the system at home is somehow
"on the edge" and a complex page pushes the Nokia (but not any other
device) "over" that edge. Yet it can display a complex page with a
standard SS skin fine. Work that one out...

Aaargh.
