So I learned a few things: 1) Using FLACs (non-transcoded) to my work SoftSqueeze worked fine. I have 2 Mbps upstream bandwidth from home so it's great, but I can't really be that much of a bandwidth hog at work.
2) Once I transcode, I start having SoftSqueeze stream pauses and weirdness during Random Play. 3) Using the experimental option for forking the audio server clears up the pausing problem completely with Random Play and transcoding going both at once. So I'm running that way now. Been running for several hours with no pauses or interruptions in the stream. Very nice stuff so far. I hope this helps other people running on modestly powered hardware.
