I finally decided to go with 6.5B1 to test out the new F/W functionality post F/W 55.
My 6.31 install used to consume about 60Mb of RAM with a lot of the unecessary plug-ins disabled. I was kinda expecting 6.51 to be even "Slimmer" in terms of memory usage, since all the Scanner code has been branched off into a separate .exe. However 6.5 currently consumes 78Mb with MySQL consuming another 15Mb. I know memory is cheap, so this isn't a great concern to anyone with a resonably new machine, but anyone thinking of running Slimserver on an old machine with 128Mb of RAM better think again. Where is all the memory usage coming from? Is there perhaps a heap of old legacy code that still needs to get the chop prior to release? Apart from that. I'm impressed, pretty much bug-free from what I can tell. I can't say I've noticed a huge amount of new features. I can't use Rhapsody. The browser UI is nicer although I don't like the playlist commands scrolling with the playlist. Also making the same config changes to multiple players is a bit of a chore with the new UI. If you want common settings among players, you have to select the player, apply the setting, navigate to home, pick the next player etc... Can I suggest that when you go into the settings for a player, the breadcrumb trail changes from the current Home / Player Settings for Living Room into a dropdown Home / Player Settings for [Living Room | Kitchen | SoftSqueeze] Users could then apply a setting, navigate to the next player apply the setting without having to navigate back to home to pick another player. -- oreillymj ------------------------------------------------------------------------ oreillymj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=699 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27130 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
