This thread explains the problems I've been seeing too. I've noticed that if I search for an artist, the only albums listed are compilations on which the artist appears. I don't see the "real" albums released by that artist.
(I checked the contents of the mysql database and, for the sample artist I chose, saw that 'contributor_album' only mentioned the artist/album pair for a role of 6. When I added another row with role 5, the search worked as expected for that artist.) I also notice that when viewing an albums list, the ARTIST part of "ALBUM by ARTIST" is a list of all contributors to the album, not the contents of the ALBUMARTIST tag. (I have "Group compilation albums together" and "List albums by band" selected... I've not touched the three checkboxes above those however, as they don't mention ALBUMARTIST.) My opinion on how it should behave (to add to the many others!) is that when viewing the information about an album, ALBUMARTIST should be used if present. If it's not present, by all means compile a suitable list from the individual track ARTISTs or, optionally for COMPILATION=1, use a fixed "Various Artists" (user-definable). Personally I tag all albums with an ALBUMARTIST tag, using "Various Artists" when appropriate, so I'd want to see ALBUMARTIST take precedence over any special COMPILATION=1 behaviour. For searching, I'm in two minds -- sometimes I want to find an album, and sometimes I want to find any song by a certain artist (in which case I'd want results from compilations too). -- smst ------------------------------------------------------------------------ smst's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=752 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34116 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
