Following on from my post above, I ran the sudo cpan Storable command, restarted the Mac, and Slimserver still didn't work. Then I installed Slimserver 6.5.2 (without manually wiping all the old Slimserver files), restarted the Mac and still no joy.
Today, I switched everything off, and restarted them in the order: router, Mac, Squeezebox, and magically it's working! I'm not sure which intervention helped (I suspect it was the sudo cpan Storable command), but it seems that re-booting everything (including the router and Squeezebox) might be important. Main thing is that the Squeezebox is up and running again. I'm a happy man!
