If SlimServer is really to play much of a part in their > future software strategy then it just doesn't make a lot of sense. - Merging companies takes time. - Introducing new developers takes time. - They lost one of the lead developers in Dan Sully, I'm sure that slowed them down a bit. - Using volunteers and contractors that already knows the software seems like a good idea to keep the development speed up until they have introduced their own resources. - They are probably also focused on introducing the SqueezeBox in the Logitech sales channels. - I'm not sure how easy it is to find skilled perl developers, if this is hard it might take longer time to introduce a lot of new developers.
I suspect this is some of the reasons why we aren't seeing much progress visible on the surface at the moment. But I still also suspect there is something going on which we aren't aware of, it might be Jive related stuff it might be SqueezeNetwork related stuff or something completely different. But SlimDevices/Logitech has declared in other threads that SlimServer will be there in the future, so I don't believe they are working on some hidden software that is supposed to completely replace SlimServer. -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.homeip.net) 'My download page' (http://erland.homeip.net/download) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library and RandomPlayList plugins' (http://wiki.erland.homeip.net/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36372 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
