I unzipped the AlienBBC .tar.gz from within the /usr/share/ directory and it looks like it installed all the files OK (Alien in plugin dir etc...)
MPlayer is executable (and works fine with the old version of the .rpm) I ran "chown -Rf squeezecenter:squeezecenter ." from within "/usr/share" - but I didn't check if the permisions to the symbolically linked plugin directory had been changed correctly - I'll look tonight. The rpm was from 20071105.
