Don't try to update what you are listening to at the time; it's just silly to expect it to be ignored when other users are asking for more active updating all the time. If you use iTunes, set the reload interval to a very long time and trigger the scan on manual only. Same goes for MIP. You can also set your taggers to avoid changing the "last modified" timestamp on files so that the scanner won't be triggered.
