The reason that I want it is because it will make it clearer to everyone how the future looks like. This will save some time because when someone ask for feature XXX, you can just refer to the roadmap and tell them that unless someone provides a patch it won't be done in the next 12 months.
Another reason to have to roadmap is to get a better view of where SqueezeCenter is heading. My personal feeling is unfortunately that lately it hasn't improved so much from a user point of view and I really hope this will change in the future. Of course, there has been a lot of work behind the curtain that end users don't see that was necessary, like: - Conversion from SQLite to MySQL in 6.5 - New plugin API and stability fixes in 7.0 But to be honest, what are the big improvements from a user point of view in 6.5 and 7.0 ? I know there are some, like the SqueezeNetwork integration and new skin in 7.0, but to be frank, the functionality from a user perspective it is pretty much the same today as it was about 2 years ago when I first saw SlimServer. I realize that the main reason for this is lack of resources, I'm actually really impressed how much that has been done behind the curtain the last 2 years when thinking of how "few" resources Logitech has put in for the work. The reason I personally like the roadmap, is that I like to know if the next 2 years is going to look the same as the last 2. It feels like I'm getting a bit off topic here, so I'll just stop. I really appreciate all the work everyone is doing on SqueezeCenter, it's just that I would like more to happen. But I guess this just isn't possible at the moment due to lack of resources, or more things may be happening but just not visible here on the forum. kdf;243328 Wrote: > I can't say it enough: start simple. > Agreed, if new developers are expected to provide the whole patch, starting simple is the only way. It's not a matter of limited resources at Logitech, it's about learning the SlimServer code in small steps. My wish is just that it would be possible to also have discussions regarding larger changes. Not to make a patch for it immediately, more like setting up the plan for the future. I realize that Logitech is reading the forum and will pickup som of these things and probably discuss them internally. But often when I've posted in the developers forum to try to start a discussion regarding something that is more than a simple patch the discussion has either died immediately or died after one or two responses. But as you say, the reason for this is probably the lack of resources. With the current amount of core SqueezeCenter developers, it's probably just wasted time to discuss large features. The discussion will just take up developing time, that could have been used to fix bugs or small changes in the current release. In the last months I've actually thought about quitting pretty much all my SqueezeCenter plugin work several times, the main reason is the lack of vision shown in the forum. Sure, the Jive remote has some potential, but also there the plans seems to be pretty short (at least the visible plans). I realize that I might expect too much, but since I'm doing this on my spare time for free I really need something to look forward to. I currently feel that SqueezeCenter is the best thing available for my music listening, but I'm not currently sure this will be the case in 1 or 2 years. I'm not trying to glorify my own work, but unless I would have the functionality in my plugins I would probably be using some other solution than SqueezeCenter today. I'm a bit afraid that SqueezeCenter will look a bit nicer in 2 years, but still have pretty much the same features as today. I guess I might just be expecting more to happen than what's possible with the current amount of developers... Yes, I know I could probably contribute more than I have to the SlimServer core code, the main reason I haven't is just that I feel that the time from patch to official release is too long. Making the feature as a plugin as so far made this time a lot shorter.
