I just tried installing 7.0a for the first time (trunk 2007-11-26), on a Mac running 6.5.4 under OS X 10.3.9.
a) First tried with option for prefs pane "To This User"; it didn't ask for any authentication, but simply reported it had failed (sorry, didn't record the exact message). So then I tried the option "To All Users (requires authentication)", which duly asked for authentification, and succeeded. b) Using the "Start Server" button in the prefs pane flicked to "Stop Server", then almost immediate back to "Start Server", and indeed the SB couldn't see the server, and neither could a web browser. Looking at the console showed: ===== Mon Nov 26 2007 ===== 23:03:08 Europe/Dublin ===== ERROR: Cannot find server.prefs file ERROR: Cannot find server.prefs file dyld: perl can't open library: /System/Library/Perl/lib/5.8/libperl.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2) /Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/SqueezeCenter.app/Contents/Resources/start-server.sh: line 13: 6342 Trace/BPT trap ./slimserver.pl --daemon 2>&1 Nov 26 23:03:16 MySlimServer crashdump: Unable to determine CPSProcessSerNum pid: 6342 name: perl Nov 26 23:03:16 MySlimServer crashdump: Started writing crash report to: /Users/SlimServe/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/perl.crash.log ERROR: Cannot find server.prefs file Nov 26 23:03:16 MySlimServer crashdump: Finished writing crash report to: /Users/SlimServe/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/perl.crash.log ================================================== This is my first attempt at SS 7, and I'm not going to be able to get into it intensively. a) Is it worth creating an account with bugzilla and reporting this, or is well known stuff? Is the crash log useful to the developers, or would it be old news? b) SS isn't mission critical to me, so I'm not bothered if stuff breaks; but I don't have a lot of time to fiddle right now. So my second question: is there an easy fix with a decent chance of getting me to SS7; or should I just go back to 6.5 and wait for SS 7 to get debugged some more?
