On the first installation attempt, SlimServer was installed but was not
started. I specifically stopped the server before starting the
installation but I suppose it is possible it could have shown a status
of stopped but still have something running in the background?

However, on the second install attempt, I uninstalled SlimServer as
well as the Squeezecenter files and attempted a clean install and it
continued to exhibit the same behavior.

For kicks, I went to a 3rd Mac (MacBook running 10.4.9) that has never
had SlimServer installed on it and SC7 installed and runs without any
problems. So, it would appear that there is something I'm missing in
removing files from the other 2 Macs that is interfering. Any
suggestions on what it might be? In removing the older versions of
SlimServer, I searched for all files containing *Slim* and Squeeze* and
deleted them. This included the *.plist files. I am using an
Administrator account and when I do the install I choose "This User" as
it is the only profile that will ever run SS or SC.

I tried this again today on the Mac Mini. I made sure SS was not
running and was set to Never start. I rebooted the Mac Mini. After the
reboot, I deleted all the *slim* files (but found no Squeeze files due
to the previous uninstall). I downloaded the Dec 5 nightly for OSX and
ran the install. It says it installed successfully but the server again
will not start.

This is very disappointing. I really prefer to have this running on the
Mac Mini instead of using the MacBook because I have the external H/D
connecting to the Mini with firewire and the Mini is hard-wired to the
network with a cable. In fact, I think it is lame that one even has to
go through the process of manually trying to remove files from previous
versions. It doesn't seem to be asking too much for a program
installation to be smart enough to remove the existing files during an
upgrade.

I also saw the other thread where this is not working on Leopard in
some cases. So, you have at least 2 people reporting the same problem
installing on OSX 10.3.9 (with one of those people experiencing the
issue on 2 different Mac's) and you have a couple of people reporting
the same problem with Leopard. This seems to be more of a problem with
SC7 than a localized computer issue. I do believe the problem is due to
an incompatibility with older files that may be orphaned on the system
but Logitech needs to figure out a way to make these installations work
better on all platforms without making their customers dig through file
systems trying to figure out where the breakdown is occurring.

I suspect that if I reload OSX on the Mac Mini to "guarantee" SC7 a
"clean" platform, I can get this working. But, do you really expect
your customers to have to go to those kinds of extremes? If you do,
then customers like me should probably start looking at what the
competition is offering.
