This seems very strange.  I have not had these problems.  When you
download the dmg file and double click on the installer icon, does it
say that SlimCenter has installed OK?

I have never known this to fail.  Maybe worth double checking that you
have no other applications running just in case.  Also people always
tell you to make sure you repair permissions by running Disk Utility in
the Utilities folder (this takes ages on OSX 10.5) - worth a try even
though I am yet to be convinced it does anything!

Good luck, but I cannot think what else to suggest - I am afraid that
it is most likely something with your system rather than
Slimserver/SlimCenter.

If it installs correctly you should have a SlimCenter preferencepane
visible in System Preferences and everything else now seems to install
in ~/user/Library/Application Support/SqueezeCenter
