Either date or svn rev number work for pre-releases.  I don't think
there's any real advantage to either.  It's probably best that the RPM,
deb and tarball all do it the same way.  Either way, the need for the
leading 0.1 is still there.  Your example is a case where the increment
might be needed:

squeezecenter-7.0-0.1.r3466  =>
squeezecenter-7.0-0.2.beta1  =>
squeezecenter-7.0-1
