I'm not sure about this message. When do you see it? During install?
Startup? In the logs?

Regardless, I can't be very helpful about Mandriva. I installed it a
couple of months ago to test. Frankly, I got frustrated and gave up.
I don't think there's anything about the RPM that specifically breaks
Mandriva, but maybe...

For anyone with more Mandriva technical knowledge than me who can help,
here's some info that may help you get started:
- Mandriva has a non-threaded perl so the modules in CPAN/arch/5.8
won't work. You need to run build-perl-modules.pl. Maybe I should
open a bug requesting modules for non-threaded perl be included (this
might help with Gentoo too...)
- When trying to run build-perl-modules.pl, you will likely get
frustrated because the standard Mandriva install omits most of the
standard development tools. Unfortunately, I don't have a list, but
there are least a dozen packages including compilers, make, libraries
and -devel packages that you need.
- You will then probably run into the following bugs:
Bug 5882: build-perl-modules.pl can't build Encode-Detect on new linux
install
Bug 6143: Add GD to build-perl-modules.pl
- Once I got past that by installing from RPMs, I ended up with the
error described in
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40197. At that point, I
gave up :(

Any pointers appreciated. I'm sure there's a solution to this...
