Several people requested the same things when the built-in random mix
functionality was initially introduced in SlimServer. However, the developers
wanted to keep it simple.

A good alternative is to use Erlands SQLPlaylist plugin. It gives you the same
sort of functionality as Random Mix, except you can select genres to include
and genres to exclude.

You can also easily create new menus, using templates. So for example, you can
create something like "Random Songs not Christmas" that includes various genres
but excludes Christmas genre. There's an Advanced template, that also allows
you to define a new random playlist with even more options, such as "Exclude
tracks for selected artists", whereby you could create a "Random Songs for
Wife" that excludes Steely Dan.

You can also install Erlands CustomSkip plugin, which would allow you to set up
exclusions on the fly. So for example, if a song comes up that you don't like,
you can call up custom skip and select some rule for skipping songs like that.
eg. If you were playing a Random Song Mix, and a Steely Dan song started to
play, you could go to Custom Skip, select to skip where Artist is Steely Dan.
You can define it to be a permanent skip, or skip for a period of time.
There's lots more options, such as to skip if recently played, so when you find
that Random Songs isn't being quite as random as you would like, you can
guarantee that songs won't repeat within an hour.
