After my last post about this that included the link to the Last.fm forum thread I ended up with the third party SC7 Scrobber able to scrobble but the built in one not. Someone on the thread said that, once the lsat.fm problem had cleared, they had been unable to scrobble until they'd deleted their queue of music waiting to be scrobbled to Last.fm.
I am not dead sure but i think it is possible that my built-in SC7 scrobbler started to scrobble again because it's file containing the list of music to be submitted got deleted. All seem fine now (for what it's worth... it looks likely that the Last.fm service will not be accessible from the UK soon anyway).
