It's probably related to the VA searching issue I'm currently trying to understand: if I have a compilation with an album artist, and a track artist is identical to the album artist, they show up once. But if there's a track artist which is different, they show up twice. It thus makes sense to consider them different contributors.

Or the count is wrong as it does not only count the Artist, but the other contributors too.
