Are you running your own MySQL instance, by any chance? Recent builds of MySQL 5 have a bug that breaks the sort order. It's fixed in the versions available from mysql.com, but the Debian testing/unstable packages still contain the bug at present.
There's already a bug filed on this with slimdevices, but it's a MySQL problem so not much that can be done.
