You say you "know" about the recent changes to branching. I'm afraid you don't understand the implications. It's a very large departure from past procedure. In the past, the 'trunk' would occasionally go unstable, but 99% of the time it was carefully kept running smoothly. Particularly toward the time when a release was to go out, only very small and (usually) well-tested checkins would be made. You should instead check out 7.0 trunk, which is the development trunk for the most recent 7.0 release, and which should remain relatively stable as bug fixes are checked in. This is much more in line with what you've previously run, and is the branch that most beta testers would be interested in. I have 7.0 trunk and 7.1 trunk both checked out and I see the same things you do in 7.1 - it's expected.
