Another Firefox/Opera user here, but if you're an IE7 fan - have you tried the 'Avant' (http://www.avantbrowser.com/) frontend? It's a browser that sits "on top" of IE7 and uses the IE engine but takes up far less memory and runs a fair amount faster in my experience.
