Eric -- the sync code in 7.3 is a total rewrite, not designed for backwards compatibility. See http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Design_of_new-streaming for more info. In my plugins, I have if/else code looking at $::VERSION to see if it's 7.3 or newer (and not all my plugins are updated for 7.3 yet).
