The main reason is a very simple one: For broadcasting purposes, I -need- (and want) all songs I have from any one artist stored together, namely, in (below) an »artist« folder. Lets say Im more interested in which titles I have than on which album they were.
Its still nice (and needed because of legal playing restrictions) to know on which albums and/or compilations they were. So if I had a compilation having a Queen song and a Pink Floyd song, they would end up in something like M:\Music\Queen\xxx M:\Music\Pink Floyd\xxx Of course the single songs would still have the album name of the compilation (like »Greatest Rock Songs«), also COMPILATION (or TCMP) would be set. They would also have the same ALBUMARTISTSORT, the same ALBUMARTIST, the same MUSICBRAINZ ALBUM ID and so on. So there would be enough tags to uniquely aggregate all of them back into an album. Since SC is basically an album-oriented system, Id like it to do this job correctly. In case you wonder how Id group compilations together -without- SC I use simple playlists, generated by Mp3tag when I check the songs into the system, i.e. M:\Playlists\Albums\Various Artists - Greatest Rock Songs.m3u Hope this clarifies it a bit.
