Michael, thanks for the pointer - it does appear to be connected to my third party firewall software (ESET security). If I shutdown ESET and do a complete fresh install of Squeezcenter, then it will work - once I re-enable ESET, the next time I try to shutdown/restart Squeezecenter then it won't start up (with the error message that I posted previously as well as an event log that mysqld.exe has closed down).
However, what's a bit odd is that I have given squeezecenter.exe, scanner.exe and mysqld.exe full access in ESET as well as put in exceptions for the relevant ports (3484 and 9000). Checked this and reapplied them just in case, but the startup problem persists. If I roll back to v24777 then SC starts up no problem - which perhaps suggests a change in SC behaviour which ESET is responding to introduced after that date - any ideas? There is nothing in the ESET logs which shows Squeezecenter being blocked. I am going to try uninstaling and reinstalling ESET to see if that makes a difference, but do you have any other ideas what I can do to pin this down? I will also email the ESET team. -- Siduhe Who am I on 'LAST.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/siduhe)? "-Siduhe Loved Tracks radio got the thumbs up.
