I have my server set to power down at night. After I stop listening to
music, I select "power off squeezebox" on my Duet controller.

When my server (HP MediaSmart) powers off, the Duet controller's
display changes to "searching for network", then my server powers back
up. I believe that the controller is sending a LAN wakeup signal to
my server that is preventing it from sleeping.

Does the controller send the LAN wakeup signal, or the squeezebox? Can
I test to see if the controller is the issue by remoivg the battery?

Is there any way of diabling the wake LAN feature? Will switching to
squeezenetwork work?

Please can you fix this.
